Hello, In the past three years, I've planted over 40,000 native trees and shrubs, initially using plastic pots and bags. These traditional methods posed challenges such as being heavy, fragile, and generating non-eco-friendly waste that cluttered our site. Transporting these plants added 25% to their cost due to high freight and labour expenses, and it took considerable time to remove them from their containers. Additionally, disposing of plastic waste was problematic.
In the last 15 months, the revolutionary ELLEPOT system has transformed our process. Used locally in Rotorua by WaiNot Native Nursery in Waikite Valley, this method has drastically lowered freight costs. A significant number of plants can now be transported in a single degradable box and are ready to plant without unnecessary handling. The ELLEPOT system’s eco-friendly pots further reduce labour and environmental impact.
We can plant using a spade or, as I do, with a battery drill and auger, speeding up the process and reducing costs. Plants thrive better and grow faster; some native shrubs don’t even require later maintenance. The option to place a fertiliser tablet beside, not under, the tree further boosts growth, mitigating expensive follow-up care. This system allows for more efficient planting, improved plant survival rates, and notable cost savings.
